If you look at the physiology of hair it is clear that the roots of hair called Follicles are embedded in the scalp. In simple terms, scalp is the bed on which the hair roots are grounded & it derives all nutrition from there. Hence, only a healthy scalp can give healthy hair.
An itchy scalp, known as Pruritus, is an irritating & embarrassing condition (as you have a constant urge to scratch your head) which is quite common. The reasons for an Itchy scalp can be various, the commonest ones being dandruff & various skin infections.

Aloe Vera is well known for its anti-bacterial & anti-inflammatory properties, Aloe Vera very effectively gives relief from dryness and itchiness of the scalp.
Apply Aloe Vera gel on the scalp and leave it for 20 minutes, then rinse properly. Repeat this once or twice a week and see the difference.
Baking Soda is extremely helpful in treating dandruff menace. It exfoliates the scalp and keeps it clean, at the same time its alkaline nature balances the pH level and provides relief from itchiness.
Apply a paste of baking Soda & water directly on your scalp & leave for 15-20 minutes, then rinse thoroughly.
The antibacterial & anti-fungal properties of onion juice helps in providing relief from the itchiness caused by dandruff or ringworms. The essential nutrients present in it nourishes the scalp too.
Simply apply the onion juice on the scalp for approximately 30 minutes & rinse with shampoo thereafter.
Chamomile flower is well known for its anti-inflammatory properties and its ability to soothe itchiness. It has been frequently used as a hair treatment too.
The flowers should be boiled in water and the concentrate preserved. Spray the liquid on the scalp to get instant relief from itching.
Of all the home remedies for Itchy Scalp, use of Fenugreek seeds is the most popular one as it not only soothes itchiness but is a well-known natural conditioner for our tresses.
Soak the seeds in water overnight, make a smooth paste and apply on the scalp & leave for an hour. Rinse thoroughly with water and experience the wonderful result.
Neem is well known for its antibacterial & antifungal properties since ancient times.
Apply Neem oil on the scalp and leave for one hour, then rinse with mild shampoo and get rid of infections and itchiness.
There are numerous DIY solutions to get rid of an itchy scalp but if they fail to provide any relief it is better to visit an expert & seek help.
In any case, such conditions should not be ignored as it may worsen and result in harming the follicles, resulting in hair fall.
