On an average; your hair grows about half an inch every month and three-fourths inches in 6 weeks. However, this data can’t be held accountable in all cases because there are a lot of factors that contribute to hair growth. Genetics, hormones, age, lifestyle, and diet are some of the most common factors that dictate the rate at which your hair grows.
A single strand of hair contains two elements namely a follicle and the shaft. What you see above the scalp is referred to as the shaft, which is made up of a protein called keratin. And the part underneath the scalp is a follicle. The hair follicle is attached to the epidermis and goes all the way down to the dermis layer of the scalp.
So, the follicle is where your hair originates from. The blood vessels surrounding it feed it and help it grow. As the hair grows, it pushes out through the root and the sebaceous glands present on the scalp coat it with oil making it lustrous and soft.
Did you know, you are born with all the hair follicles you will ever have in your entire lifetime? Over time some of these follicles either slow down or die eventually.
Owing it to faulty genetics or a bad lifestyle, sometimes your hair just stops growing. It might not be getting enough nutrients to grow or too much heat might have damaged your hair.
Another myth about hair growth is that cutting your hair frequently contributes towards longer hair. This is not entirely true. When your hair shaft is damaged and the hair is growing out from the root, it leads to a split end. However, when you cut the damaged end, the hair growth from the root leads to healthy hair.
What you eat: Your hair requires protein, carbohydrates, and fats to grow. Some micronutrients also play a huge factor in hair growth. So, when your diet comprises of all the essential micro and macronutrients, you will notice your hair getting longer and stronger eventually.
Hair Treatments: In the absence of some extra care, over time your hair loses its strength and luster. So, it's crucial that you provide your hair with treatments regularly. For example, keratin is one such treatment meant to heal and infuse hair with protein. Another treatment that ensures healthy hair growth is laser therapy.
Advanced Hair Studio offers a variety of hair fall treatments for hair restoration as well as hair regrowth.
Hair isn’t as simple as it appears on the surface. There are many factors that encourage as well as hinder hair growth. So, care for your manes, give them the required nutrients, get a hair treatment done occasionally and protect them from heat. If you’re in the process of growing out your hair, following these tips will ensure a longer, healthier and shinier hair.
