For years, people have believed in a number of misconceptions prevalent about hair loss, hair fall and hair regrowth. These myths and misconceptions around why men and women lose their hair and leave people confused and disheartened.
We talked to some hair restoration experts who cleared the air around these misconceptions. Let’s find out:
MISCONCEPTION: Plucking grey hair results in the growth of more grey hair.
TRUTH: This is the oldest myth you will hear that if you pluck one grey hair, it will result in more and more. But the reality is that more grey hair will surface no matter what- you cannot blame the plucking itself. The reason why we see more grey hair is that your hair becomes weaker if you pluck them too much and it will stop growing back.
MISCONCEPTION: Wearing hats can cause hair loss.
TRUTH: Many people believe the myth that wearing a hat causes hair loss and also prevent hair growth, which is not the truth. Hats does not have any effect on the growth of the hair.
MISCONCEPTION: If you massage your scalp, your hair will grow faster.
TRUTH:Massaging your scalp doesn’t help you grow faster and there is no direct effect of any physical stimulation of the scalp on the hair follicles, although prolonged massaging may cause frictional damage to hair.
MISCONCEPTION: Washing hair in cold water will prevent baldness.
TRUTH: Washing hair using cold water may increase blood circulation, but it does not prevent baldness. There are some benefits to washing your hair in cold water, such as cuticle tightening and frizz prevention. But, there is no direct relation between washing your hair in cold water and baldness prevention.
In fact, hair experts at Advanced Hair Studio during the consultation for best hair loss treatment advice clients not to use too hot or too cold water.
MISCONCEPTION: Hair loss comes from the mother’s side of the family.
TRUTH: It is true that one of the major reasons for hair loss is due to the genetics, but there are approximately 200 genes that regulate hair and hair growth. Experts say that there are generally some genes from both sides of the family that play a role and it’s not just from the mother’s family.
MISCONCEPTION: Direct sunlight causes balding.
TRUTH:Direct sunlight doesn’t affect hair regrowth. Your hair acts as a natural shield to protect the top of the head from the sun. Ultraviolet (UV) rays can cause skin problems like speeding up aging and cancer, but it will not disrupt hair follicle role, and your hair will not fall out because of this.
